Market positioning or product positioning or Competitive Positioning

A product's position is the complex set of positions, impressions and feelings that consumers hold for the product compared with competing products.
   Consumers position products with or without the help of marketers but marketers don't want to leave their products position to chance. They must plan position that they give products greatest advantage in selecting target market and they must design marketing mixes to create this planned position.
        A products position is the way the product is defined by consumers on important attributes i.e the place the product occupies in consumer minds relative to competing products.
